Short version: Stalky stores everything locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or share any of your data. No servers. No accounts. No tracking.
What Stalky does
Stalky is a Chrome browser extension that helps you analyze your Instagram followers and following list. It uses the Instagram session already active in your browser — no separate login is required.
Data we do NOT collect
We do not collect your Instagram username or password
We do not collect your Instagram session cookies
We do not transmit follower or following lists to any server
We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party SDKs
We do not store any information outside of your own device
Data stored locally on your device
Stalky stores the following data in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) so the extension can work across sessions:
Follower snapshots — a list of user IDs and usernames used to detect changes between fetches. Stored only on your device.
Monitor configuration — your alert preferences (on/off, interval). Stored only on your device.
Fetch progress state — temporary in-progress data cleared after each fetch. Stored only on your device.
All stored data can be cleared at any time by removing the extension or clearing Chrome's extension storage.
Permissions explained
cookies — read your Instagram session cookies (csrftoken, ds_user_id, sessionid) to authenticate requests to Instagram on your behalf. These are never sent to us.
storage / unlimitedStorage — save follower snapshots and settings locally on your device.
alarms — schedule periodic background checks for the unfollow alert feature.
notifications — show a browser notification when someone unfollows you.
instagram.com host access — make the same API requests your browser makes when you visit Instagram, to fetch follower and following lists.
Third-party services
Stalky communicates exclusively with instagram.com — the same domain your browser is already connected to. No other third-party service, analytics provider, or external server receives any data.
Children's privacy
Stalky is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
